
Our 8th collaboration saw the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust (UKFMCT) coming on board to fund the Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra (SHESO) initiative in setting up training programmes for children and teenagers in two (2) villages.
Programmes ran from July 2023 to September 2023 and were facilitated by SHESO at:
- Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Pan Yard located above the capital Kingstown of St. Vincent.
- Troumaca Ontario Secondary School & Troumaca Government School located in the rural village of Troumaca on the North Leeward side of St. Vincent
Grant funding from the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust enabled the following outcomes from this programme:
- A total of 71 participants attended the programmes
- Four (4) tutors provided training sessions in music theory, reading and writing music, and basic history of the Steel Pan.
- Two (2) educational tours to Madeira Valley Forest Park and Richmond Vale Academy/ Dark View Falls.
- Educational Packages were sourced locally and presented to participants at the end of the programme. These participants were very excited to receive packages for back to school.
- A follow-up Easter programme took place in 2024
Over 70 children and teenagers participated in the Steel Pan Programme at a total cost of US$13,590
