The largest undertaking of the Mustique Charitable Trusts since their inception in 2008 and initiated in response to the La Soufrière Volcano eruptions in April 2021
41 Houses in total were built in two (2) communities in the Red Zone in the North Windward region of St Vincent to relocate families mainly from the riverbeds and river coasts who were most affected by lahars and flooding.
First Housing Site located in Orange Hill now has 21 new homes, which were handed over on 26th September 2023. Some families have already moved into their homes and conveyed their gratitude for their new beautiful homes and their joy to return to their home community
Second Housing Site located in Sandy Bay now has another 20 new homes built in an area adjacent to the Primary School, the Learning Resource Centre and an intended Clinic. The Handover Ceremony took place on 26th October 2023 and the families are currently arranging their utilities and furnishings.
UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust funded US$1,496,930 for the construction of the 41 houses while the Government in collaboration with The Mustique Charitable Trust provided the lands
Roads, Building and General Services Authority (BRAGSA) provided their construction expertise as the main contractor who engaged over 20 small sub-contractors from the Red Zone to construct the houses.
Houses were built complete inclusive of the finishes with structures consisting of block and reinforced concrete and included 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom homes based on each family needs.
We commend all the construction teams for their dedicated efforts and commendable workmanship, which produced 41 beautiful houses, both on the outside and inside.
We are all highly pleased with the outcome of this significant and worthwhile project and we look forward to all the families being in their new homes by early December 2023 just in time to celebrate the Holiday Season.
